Loretta's Kitchen in Oakwood GA | Southern Soul Food You Need to Try

Oakwood, Georgia isn’t the first place most people think of when they go hunting for great Southern food — and that’s exactly why Loretta’s Country Kitchen has stayed such a well-kept secret. We drove up to find out whether the reputation holds up, and we walked out with a very clear answer.

A Real Country Kitchen, Not a Theme

Owner Grant Nichols walked us through the concept and the kitchen operation, and what stood out immediately is how little of this place is for show. The plates come out looking like somebody’s grandmother made them, because functionally, that’s the standard they’re cooking to. Scratch cooking, classic Southern staples, no shortcuts hiding behind the menu descriptions.

What We Tasted

We worked our way across a spread of their signature plates, breaking down flavor and texture on each one so you know exactly what you’re getting before you commit. Some dishes are the obvious first-timer orders. Others are the ones you’d only find if a regular pointed you to them — and we found a few of those too.

Is It Worth the Drive?

That’s the real question for anyone outside Hall County, and we answer it honestly in the video. Watch the full review above, then let us know in the comments: what’s your favorite classic Southern dish?
