Taqueria Tsunami in Gainesville, GA | Korean Short Rib Nachos vs Spicy Mahi Tacos

Korean Short Rib Nachos vs Spicy Mahi Tacos | Which Wins at Taqueria Tsunami?

Latin-Asian fusion isn’t something you expect to find on a historic Georgia square, but Taqueria Tsunami has made it a fixture on The Square in downtown Gainesville. Tucked into the Renaissance Building across from Main Street Market, this spot blends Korean, Japanese, and Latin flavors into a menu that doesn’t play it safe — and mostly doesn’t miss.

The Concept

We sat down with manager Lisa Nance to hear how the Latin-Asian fusion concept came together, then put the menu to the test. The idea is simple: take the format of a taqueria and run it through a Pacific Rim filter. The result is food that feels familiar and brand new at the same time.

What We Ate

The fresh-made guacamole set the tone, but the Korean short rib nachos were the early star — sweet-savory braised beef piled over crisp chips. The red pepper cauliflower is the sleeper pick for vegetarians. On the taco side, it came down to a head-to-head: the “Rich Man’s” ranch taco versus the spicy mahi Pacific Rim taco. Watch the video to see which one took the crown. We closed with the fan-favorite All-American Bowl and washed everything down with three house drinks — a mocktail, a classic mojito, and a skinny margarita.
