Matcha is Taking Over Georgia’s Dessert Scene

A cafe that specializes in Matcha Desserts!

Review overview

The Pros

  • Quick and friendly service
  • Authentic Matcha

The Cons

  • Small parking lot
  • lack of variety in Matcha desserts

The huge Matcha trend finally makes its way to Georgia! This earthy, vibrant green tea powder  is not a popular ingredient for desserts in Georgia as it is in the bigger cities of the U.S. such as Los Angeles and Houston.  But Matcha Maiko is changing that! Everything on the menu mainly consists of Matcha. If you don’t know why this is growing into a huge dessert trend, you can read our article about it here.

The store has a Japan-style inspired interior.  The decorations and chairs are very modern and stylish. The front display window has a mini Zen garden. The food and the decorations of the store were very pleasing to the eye and it is a very calming environment to relax in but be warned that it can feel cramped when busy.

Everyone I knew was raving about this “Matcha Heaven”.  For the soft opening, the shop was always packed and it always seemed impossible to find parking. The first two times I came, I tried to park in the Tea House Formosa and I got chased out by an old Chinese lady with a whistle and a red flag.  I finally found parking at the Matcha Maiko property on my 3rd visit that week.

The dessert presentation is very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Every dessert on the menu had a smooth creamy looking finish. There’s even a 24 karat gold matcha ice cream for people that want to be fancy. I just settled for the Soft-Serve Matcha Ice Cream ($5.25).

The Soft Serve Matcha came out very smooth and the Matcha flavor has a kick to it. The kick assures you it’s authentic Matcha and it is not just cheap, green tea flavored powder which is common in some “matcha”  milk tea drinks.

In conclusion, I really enjoyed Matcha Maiko.  I posted this review a bit later than intended, but all over social media, I still see people constantly posting photos of the Golden Matcha Ice Cream (9.50).
